What it is like to stay in a registered stone mansion

Staying inside a registered building is different from staying in a standard hotel. Most of those differences are in your favour; a few are worth knowing in advance.

The rooms are not copies of each other

Konak Baypark has eight rooms and none is identical to another. One has a higher vault, another a long plan, another keeps its original stone slit windows. The uniformity you would expect in a chain hotel is not here. Looking at the photographs before choosing helps.

Stone takes heat slowly and releases it slowly

Thick Midyat stone walls keep the rooms cool through a summer day. The rooms have split air conditioning, but the behaviour of the stone is part of the experience: you feel the difference the moment you step inside.

The courtyard is a shared space

A two-level courtyard sits at the centre of the house: the café-restaurant above, the sıra gecesi area below. That means the courtyard is lively in the evening. The programme ends at 23:00, and most rooms are away from the court — but do tell us at booking if you want a quiet corner.

Restoration has limits

In a restoration carried out under a heritage board decision, door openings, window dimensions and wall thicknesses cannot be changed. Some thresholds are high and some passages narrow. For guests with limited mobility, let us choose the right room together — write to us before booking.

What you gain

You wake up under a stone vault a century and a half old. The arched niches are your wardrobe. Breakfast is laid on stone tables in the courtyard. These are not things that can be added later.
