A sıra gecesi is a traditional evening gathering of south-eastern Anatolia, where music, conversation and the table belong together. In Midyat the music of that gathering is called reyhani: sung to the divan saz, the darbuka and the kaval, it draws listeners gradually into the halay circle.
At Konak Baypark the evening takes place in the historic courtyard on the lower level of the mansion. The floor is laid with kilims, low divans are set around the edges and long wooden tables run between them. The mansion’s original stone fountain stands at the centre, with the stage for the musicians opposite it.
The programme runs seven nights a week, from 19:30 until 23:00. The area seats 150 guests and reservation is required. No alcohol is served; the evening is arranged so that families and groups can take part comfortably.
Hotel guests join the evening at a 50% discount. The whole courtyard can be reserved for henna nights, birthdays and company dinners.
