Our Sustainability Policies

As part of its Bureau Veritas Environmental and Cultural Sustainability Certificate, Konak Baypark has set out its commitments in seven written corporate policies. Together they cover the environment, cultural heritage, human rights and the supply chain.

Sustainability Policy

Our aim is to benefit the communities we serve — through ergonomic, high-quality service, economic growth, environmental protection, social participation and employment — while complying with all environmental laws, regulations and statutes in force. We set environmental goals and targets, work continuously to improve our environmental performance, and strive to reduce the impact of our activities on the environment. Building environmental awareness among our employees, guests, suppliers and the wider community is our core principle.

  1. We support regional development and employment, and prefer local suppliers and products.
  2. We offer our employees equal opportunities and do not discriminate.
  3. We respect our employees' labour rights and monitor them within the framework of applicable law.
  4. We support the elimination of forced labour and child labour.
  5. We offer our employees regular training, growth and advancement opportunities.
  6. We provide a healthy, safe working environment and various channels through which employees can share requests, suggestions and complaints. We use this feedback to improve our management systems.
  7. We aim to make occupational health and safety part of our corporate culture.
  8. We value the participation of our stakeholders in running this policy and act with transparency.
  9. We share and inform our guests and employees about the natural and cultural heritage of our region.
  10. We evaluate all feedback from the environment, local residents and our guests, and use the data to continuously improve our processes.
  11. When planning investments, we take into account the risks our buildings and infrastructure pose to protected sensitive areas, historic heritage, and the integrity of the natural and cultural environment. In land use, construction, maintenance, design and landscaping we prefer authentic, locally appropriate and sustainable practices and materials. We prevent the use of invasive alien plant species and protect local biodiversity.
  12. When designing our buildings and concept, we consider the needs of guests and employees with special requirements and embrace accessible service for everyone.
  13. We contribute to the promotion, protection and development of local and regional properties, sites and traditions of historic, archaeological, cultural or spiritual significance. We base our on-site and tour activities on the protection of wildlife and do not permit captive wildlife shows.
  14. We evaluate and analyse quality in our purchasing of goods and services, and act fairly, honestly and impartially in supplier selection.
  15. We respect human rights and reject all discrimination on grounds of language, religion, race, gender and the like. We oppose any commercial, sexual or other exploitation or abuse directed at specially protected and other vulnerable groups, and we support measures against domestic violence and child abuse.
  16. We continuously develop all our processes in line with our core values and in keeping with legal and other national/international requirements.
  17. We act in line with information-security regulations and keep improving our processes.
  18. We invest in technological systems through innovation and development work that leads our sector.
  19. We analyse potential risks in advance, taking into account our own capabilities and the needs and expectations of relevant stakeholders, and develop our activities with a goal of continuous improvement. We address risk management across all our business processes and aim to capture new opportunities.
  20. In line with sustainable development, we aim to be a leader in the tourism sector and to create long-term value.
  21. To reduce tourism's impact on our environment, we take on the responsibilities of ILO standards and respect human rights through waste management, natural resource use, employee health and safety, protection of women and children, and awareness of equal rights. We believe our efforts to integrate with our community and take part in solving social problems contribute to sustainability in tourism.
  22. We believe the economical and effective management of natural resources is vital to sustainable tourism, and through our environmental practices we aim to be a model business in our sector and region.
Environmental Policy
  1. We embrace environmental sustainability as a core business principle.
  2. We identify, assess and work to minimise the environmental impact of our activities.
  3. We work to optimise the use of natural resources, especially energy, water and waste management.
  4. We comply with all environmental laws and regulations in force.
  5. We set targets to continuously improve our environmental performance and build programmes to achieve them.
  6. We raise environmental awareness among our employees, guests, suppliers and other stakeholders, and encourage their participation.
  7. We respect the local environment and biodiversity and contribute to conservation efforts.
Environmental Protection and Waste Management Policy

We take care to protect the environment and prevent pollution, and we work to minimise any adverse effects our activities may have on it.

  1. We comply with legal regulations and work to reduce our environmental impact.
  2. We take care to effectively separate our waste by source, group and hazard class.
  3. We know that using hazardous substances and chemicals only when necessary, and only in the amount required, reduces both their negative effect on the environment and the amount of waste produced.
  4. We help protect nature by preferring materials labelled "recyclable" and "eco-friendly" among our purchases, and we work to create opportunities for reuse.
  5. We use single-use items such as napkins, toilet paper and packaging only as much as necessary, to leave less waste behind.
  6. We store waste separately according to type and characteristics, ensure it is properly disposed of within legal storage time limits, and keep records of this.
  7. We work to use water, energy and all natural resources sparingly, and we share this commitment with our employees, guests and suppliers.
  8. We measure our environmental management performance, track it against targets, and work to keep improving it.
  9. We aim to train our employees on environmental matters and raise their awareness.
Cultural Heritage Protection Policy

We know and closely follow the full character and culture of our region, city and locality.

  1. Preserving our cultural heritage, and passing it on and introducing it to our guests and to future generations, is one of our priority goals.
  2. We organise cultural events for our guests that introduce the traditions and customs of our region, and prepare posters, brochures, visuals and other materials to present them.
  3. We promote our region's cuisine, dress and way of life, as well as its geography, crafts and places worth visiting.
  4. We provide material and moral support to protect, promote and pass on our cultural heritage to future generations.
Women's and Children's Rights and Gender Equality Policy

We attach great importance to gender equality. We are opposed to all forms of violence and discrimination against women and children. Recognising them as individuals, respecting their rights, and safeguarding and protecting them against any psychological, physical, commercial or other exploitation is a priority responsibility for us.

  1. We ensure the health, safety and well-being of all our employees, regardless of gender.
  2. We support women's participation in the workforce across all our departments and offer equal opportunities.
  3. We follow an "equal pay for equal work" policy without gender distinction.
  4. We assign duties based on the principle of equality.
  5. We provide the environment needed for equal access to career opportunities.
  6. We develop training policies and support women's participation and growing awareness.
  7. We create a working environment and practices that protect work-life balance.
  8. We support and offer equal opportunities for women to take part in company management.
  9. We do not tolerate women being subjected to any form of abuse, harassment, discrimination, coercion or slander. We remain constantly aware of, and support, the value they bring to the world and to our organisation.
  10. We do not permit child labour within our own organisation and expect the same sensitivity from all our business partners.
  11. We offer environments and opportunities within the business that support children's development and let them freely express their thoughts, wishes and feelings.
  12. We train our employees to prevent and recognise child abuse.
  13. We ensure children are under adult supervision during activities they take part in.
  14. We organise training and support relevant projects to raise awareness of the protection of children's rights.
  15. When we witness suspicious behaviour involving children, we first inform facility management and seek assistance from official authorities where necessary.
  16. Our business has zero tolerance for the use of child labour. Protecting children and supporting their development is an integral part of our human-rights policy. Any suspected child abuse, neglect or rights violation on the premises or nearby must be reported immediately to law enforcement and the relevant authorities.
  17. We do not force any employee to work against their will.
Procurement Policy

In line with our approach to sustainable procurement, we look for the following qualities in our suppliers and solution partners:

  1. They hold Quality Assurance Management Systems, Environmental and Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems, or internationally recognised environmental and sustainability labels or certifications.
  2. Their production and supply have no harmful effects on the environment, and they comply with environmental regulations.
  3. They use or consume resources appropriately, without harming natural life or the ecosystem, and comply with hunting bans.
  4. They work to minimise and properly manage their waste, and offer options for reduced or bulk packaging.
  5. They offer eco-friendly, economical, local, ethically minded alternatives — using recyclable or recycled materials, organic, biological, vegan, cruelty-free options free of harmful chemical components or pollutants.
  6. They are a domestic and local production or service provider.
  7. They offer a product or service that reflects and promotes the cuisine, traditions and culture of our region. We share this outlook with our supplier partners, work with them to create efficient purchasing opportunities, and aim to reduce the environmental impact arising from our supply processes.
  8. Local producers are prioritised in purchasing, and Fair Trade / eco-labelled products are preferred for imported goods such as coffee and tea.
Fair Trade Policy

In our region, "Fair Trade" does not yet have a full equivalent as an internationally widespread, certified movement. However, we view local cooperatives and initiatives centred on traditional products as practices that reflect fair-trade principles, and we support them in supporting local producers, preserving traditional production methods, and ensuring products find buyers at their true value.

  1. Although "Fair Trade" has no full equivalent in the Mardin region as an internationally widespread, certified movement, local cooperatives and initiatives centred on traditional products display practices that reflect fair-trade principles. Through these initiatives, we aim to support local producers, preserve traditional production methods, and help products find buyers at their true value.
  2. We work to make it easier to market regional products by buying directly from producers, to increase producers' income by reducing intermediaries, and to raise producer welfare — one of the core aims of fair trade.
  3. Women's cooperatives produce local handicrafts and food products and offer them to consumers at municipality-supported sales points. We support these cooperatives for providing regular income opportunities, particularly to women from disadvantaged groups, and for keeping traditional skills alive.
  4. We support the region's agricultural development, women's cooperatives, and its geographically indexed traditional products as practices that support local producers, ensure fair income distribution, and preserve traditional values.
