Filigree Bazaar

The filigree bazaar is a run of workshops in the centre of old Midyat, spread across interconnecting lanes. Silver is both worked and sold here; the back of most shops is a workshop.

The masters start early. Morning is the best time to watch hair-thin silver being wound onto a frame and soldered. Ask permission and most will be glad to show you their work.

Visiting notes: within walking distance of the mansion. If you plan to buy, check for the 925 stamp and remember that price follows labour rather than weight.
