Hasankeyf
Hasankeyf is a settlement on the Tigris with thousands of years of history. Thousands of rock-cut cave dwellings, the piers of an Artuqid bridge and the tombs show that history layer by layer.
When the Ilısu Dam filled, much of the old settlement went under water; the Zeynel Bey Tomb, the Ayyubid Mosque and several other structures were moved to the new Hasankeyf Cultural Park. A visit today covers both the relocated monuments and the new shoreline.
Visiting notes: about an hour and a half from Midyat; a full day is more comfortable than half.
